“The car must have something special about it to transform yours truly from low-rent Clark Kent into the kind of uber hero whose only fault appears to be wearing his undies over the top of his trousers. I drive down the streets cloaked in £70-odd grand’s worth of Panamera and pass a pretty young woman who waves at me and makes a ‘do you mind if I take a photo?’ kind of gesture. I wave almost nonchalantly that, no, I don’t mind at all…. Kids on BMX bikes almost ride over their own tongues, a bus driver winds down his window and gives me his best ‘Hey, you’re a hero!’ smile… Early photographs of the ‘stretch arm-stronged’ 911 didn’t do much to abate fears… Judging by the reaction to the Porsche Panamera in the flesh, however, the Germans have got an aspirational hit on their hands. It has just enough showbusiness pizazz to carry off its bold and exotic looks and it really did prove to be a real head turner.”
